SafetySure Transfer Pivot Board Applications SafetySure Transfer Board (SST Board) is used primarily for seated transfers: Between bed and wheelchair Between wheelchair and car Between wheelchair and toilet Advantages SST Board bridges the gap between two transfer points. SST Board's anti-slip tapes enable it to remain immobile during the transfer (fig. 1). The SST Board is flexible. The upper side is slick to allow the patient to slide easily. SST Board is made of flexible plastic. It is comfortable to sit on and does not tip upward when, for example, the patient slides over a protruding wheel-chair wheel. The SST Board is easy to remove. If the 23-inch board is not long enough, a 30-inch model is available. The gap between the two transfer points cannot be greater than 1/3 of the total length of the board. Provided that surfaces are stable, no patient weight restrictions apply to SST Board use. Positioning SST Board is placed under one hip and the patient is then tilted toward the board, taking the weight off the other hip. With the entire weight now resting on the SST Board, the patient can easily be transferred. To remove the SST Board, bend it upward toward the patient (fig. 2), so that the anti-slip tapes are removed from contact with the underlying surface and the board will pop out by itself. Transfer from bed to wheelchair During transfer from a bed to a wheelchair, it is often advantageous to position the wheelchair at a slight angle to the bed, so that the wheel is not in the way of the transfer. It is better if the bed is a little higher than the wheelchair - to allow for a downward transfer. The most common procedure is for the patient to sit on the edge of the bed and then slide across to the wheelchair on the SST Board (fig. 3-4). Transfer from wheelchair to bed Transfers from a wheelchair to a bed often involve an up-ward movement if the bed cannot be lowered far enough. The "comfort bed," on the other hand, can be lowered sufficiently to provide for
